Continuing your education is extremely important in all industries to stay on top of the latest advances in technology and trends. At KeyMedia Solutions, we are constantly taking webinars, conferences, classes, and training events to improve our operation.

I recently had the pleasure of attending a very powerful and motivating conference in Las Vegas, where speakers such as – Jack Canfield, originator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul® series; John Maxwell, a leadership expert, speaker, author, and pastor; Colin James, “Australian Educator of the year” leading corporate speaker, educator & facilitator; Robin Sharma, leadership adviser and author of “The Leader Who had No Title” Each of these amazing speakers gave me perspective and helped me grow in some similar way’s and also in very different ways.

In this blog, I’m going to share a few of my take-a-ways from the conference based on each of these speakers.

From Mr. Jack Canfield “It’s is always better to try SOMETHING than to do NOTHING!” This is so true; it amazes me how many individuals will worry and fret about what to do or what not to do and end up not actually making a decision to accomplish anything. In life, we should always try something and continue to learn from each of these trials – what worked well, what didn’t work at all, and how can we improve?

Mr. John Maxwell was funny, stern, and incredibly graceful on stage. As a leader, the lessons that I took away from Mr. Maxwell were very much common sense, and yet, the way he delivered each of his lessons was so powerful. Lesson 1 – “set your own bar. Your 100% effort will not be the same as someone else, so always pursue your own level of effort.” Lesson 2 – “Always be preparing instead of Repairing!” In general, the amount of preparation that is put into anything (i.e. projects at work, relationships, etc.) is a far better investment than trying to repair something that didn’t have your full attention or investment.

Colin James was a speaker that I hadn’t heard of before, but I’m extremely fascinated by his approach to corporate education. Mr. James took the entire room full of conference attendees and turned every one of us into an artist. We were each given two sheets of paper, a folder, and a pencil. We were asked to draw a portrait of a male or female (it was our choice as to the gender of our portrait). Once this was completed, we were instructed to put the portrait in the folder that was provided and then we left for a lunch break. After returning from our lunch break, we spent the next hour getting step by step instructions from Mr. James on how to draw like an artist. Here are my two drawings side by side, notice the transformation of the products. The first image without the guidance or tools for the job and then the second image with the needed tools and instructions!

The moral of this is that you’ll get what you settle for; continue the journey of education and discovery and you can do ANYTHING!

Robin Sharma reminded me of the values that I have always tried to live my life by, such as – “Always leave the people you meet better than you found them” and “Risk more than is required” each of these statements ring true for me in life as a whole and are a very large part of the reason why I’m so committed to KeyMedia Solutions. We strive to meet these goals for each of our clients and team members.
